LOVE the grandoise threat-you-cannot-possibly-keep. I hate it when I do that. You are pretty well f'ed either way. Good news is, you have to make a certain amount of mistakes to compensate for how freaking gorgeous your family is so no one gets too jealous.

As to the activities, you're much more patient and generous than I am.

It's a bummer to pay for a class they're not getting; but far worse to pay for a lot of stress and misery and ungrateful kids.

We don't go to activities if the kids give me or the teacher any grief about it at all. I just can't bring myself to beg and plead with them to do something a lot of kids wish for and can't have.

This post was a while ago. What did you decide?

This reminds me so much of when my kids were small. My eldest used to sing 'Buffalo Soldier,' and she too completely mangled the words.

I've tried the one-word commands with my kids, but they get around this by agreeing to do things and then 'forgetting.' Still, the book you have written about here sounds as though it might be useful. I always wish I could observe the writer in action with her kids, getting them to listen to her and otherwise being an effective parent.

Love reading your children's conversations, too cute. Thanks for the book recommendation, it always helps to find books that actually give common sense strategies.

I wish I could say my parenting was transformed overnight from this one seminar, but alas, I guess I'm only human. I like the analogy Adele used about how this is like learning a new language, and we the parents will always have an accent, but to our kids it will be their native tongue. That made me wanna bawl. Plus the thing about raising our kids to be mensch--humane and strong.

Your kids say the funniest things. And now I've got "Buffalo Shoulder" stuck in my head.

bean and buddy are so funny. the singing in the car part reminds me of a post a while ago about Bean/Buddy singing Johnny Cash in the car(if my memory is right). I think i've seen a clip of Bean singing coldplay as well. Your kids are sooo adorable.

I don't know why I just found that post about parenting so freakin' interesting. I am not a parent and have no children. I am either weird or you are utterly fascinating. I vote for the latter.

Ugh. The housing market. I so want to get out of my condo/townhouse. Good luck on your end.

And I want you to know I've been reading every word you write. I just figure since I've given up laundry, dishes, and cooking I might as well give up commenting on blogs. It's wrong, I know.
