Help Harrison

One of my closest friends from boarding school and college died in 1996 from leukemia. So this post from Rice Daddies struck a nerve. My friend, V, was of Indian descent. She registered with the National Marrow Donor Program, and at one point, did find a match. But the donor, for reasons unknown, withdrew. When V passed away, she was in London, about to walk a marathon to raise money and awareness about the disease.

I hope this little boy, Harrison, finds the help he needs. The fact is that not enough Asians are registered in the program. I registered when I learned about V’s disease, and was sorry I didn’t know about it earlier. It is a commitment if you are a match, but one that I believe is worth the effort — especially if it’s to help a two year old.
